A Word from Ann – 2013

1024 680 Ann Mortifee

It is hard to believe that 2013 is here already.  I am sitting beside a blazing fire with a chilly mist clinging to the waters of the bay outside our window.  All is quiet in the house and I am loving the stillness.  I thought I would say a quick hello from our wee haven and share what we have been up to with those of you who might be interested.

I am taking the winter to complete a musical theatre piece that has been deep within me for many years.  Every morning, as is my way, I am up early. I head through the woods to my studio and listen for the Muse to speak. If She does, I am always grateful to write what She has to say.  How I love this process of following the breadcrumbs through the forest, not knowing where they will eventually lead.

I will rise each morning to greet you
Beloved of my soul
If you do not come
My waiting will endure
If you do not speak
My listening will drop deeper
The ardour of my stillness
Will surely stir your heart
Like mists rising
The veil between us will grow thin
For my longing is a dark swan
And you are the silent pond
On which I glide

In the evenings, I have been interviewing Paul on the last 20 years since the first edition of his Autobiography was released. These will then be incorporated into an updated edition, which will be released when it is done.  It’s a joy to hear his reflections on a life so richly lived. We will be heading to NY in the spring where Paul will be playing with his friend, Tony Bennett, and I will be simply admiring, my favourite thing to do.
